Omni Bedford Springs Resort

Bedford, Pennsylvania
Golf course photograph of Omni Bedford Springs Resort in Pennsylvania, featuring classic green contours, bunkering, and surrounding countryside.

Some places reveal themselves quickly. Others unfold slowly, rewarding time, patience, and return visits. Omni Bedford Springs Resort belongs firmly in the latter category. From the moment you arrive, there’s a sense that this is not simply a golf course, but a place layered with history, intention, and a deep respect for the land.

Designed by Donald Ross, Bedford Springs is often cited as one of the earliest golf courses in the United States—and frequently ranked as the best public course in Pennsylvania. But accolades only tell part of the story. What makes this place special is how seamlessly the golf experience blends into its surroundings. The course doesn’t shout. It invites.

I loved my time here, not just for the golf, but for the atmosphere that surrounds it. The rolling countryside, the soft contours of the greens, the way bunkers sit naturally within the terrain—it all contributes to a feeling of calm. This is classic Ross design at its best: thoughtful, strategic, and endlessly interesting without ever feeling forced. Every hole asks you to think, but none of them demand urgency.
Standing near this green, I was struck by how complete the experience felt. The shaping is elegant and restrained. The bunkers frame rather than threaten. The land rises and falls gently, guiding your eye across the property and into the wooded hills beyond. It’s the kind of setting that slows your breathing without you even realizing it.

There’s a timeless quality to Bedford Springs that’s increasingly rare. Some destinations are best experienced in short bursts—a long weekend, a quick escape. Others invite you to linger, to settle in, to imagine what it would be like to stay a little longer. This is one of those places. You could spend a month here and still feel like you’re just beginning to understand it.

I would love to return, especially to see the recent remodel and how the course continues to evolve while honoring its roots. Courses like this don’t need reinvention; they need stewardship. From everything I’ve heard, Bedford Springs has remained true to itself, preserving the character that made it special in the first place.

This image captures what I remember most clearly: a sense of balance, beauty, and quiet satisfaction. It reflects a place where golf, history, and landscape coexist effortlessly—a place you don’t rush through, and one you carry with you long after you’ve left. If it brings back memories of your own rounds here, or sparks a desire to experience one of America’s great classic courses, I invite you to explore it in the Golf As Life Signature Collection, where places that reward time and attention are given the space they deserve.
