Some golf courses impress you with elevation and drama. Others succeed by making subtle land feel endlessly engaging. The Ocean Club, a Four Seasons Resort course designed by Tom Weiskopf, falls squarely into the latter category. Set on the eastern end of tiny Paradise Island—just off the coast of Nassau—this is golf shaped as much by restraint as by creativity.
Like most courses built this close to the ocean, the land here is largely flat. There’s no hiding that reality. What impressed me was how intelligently Weiskopf worked within those limits. Rather than forcing drama where it didn’t naturally exist, he created interest through movement, angles, and thoughtful green complexes. The course flows easily across the island, letting wind, light, and proximity to the sea play starring roles.
Standing here, you’re constantly aware of the ocean. It’s not always directly in view, but it’s present—in the breeze that never quite stops moving, in the sound of water carried across the property, and in the quality of the light that seems brighter and more reflective than almost anywhere else. The greens sit confidently within the landscape, framed by bunkers that feel purposeful rather than punitive, asking for precision without intimidation.
One of the more fascinating aspects of this course is how it weaves through some truly spectacular real estate. Between a handful of holes, the space opens up to reveal homes owned by some very well-known individuals—names I’ll politely leave unspoken. That sense of exclusivity adds another layer to the experience, reminding you that Paradise Island has long been a place where privacy, beauty, and quiet luxury intersect.
What I remember most clearly, though, is the balance. The Ocean Club doesn’t try to steal the spotlight from its setting. It complements it. The fairways feel generous, the routing unhurried, and the overall experience relaxed yet refined—very much in keeping with the rhythm of island life. You don’t feel rushed here. You feel invited to linger.
This image captures the essence of the place for me: calm greens rolling toward the sea, palm trees standing as sentinels, and the Atlantic stretching endlessly beyond. It reflects a course that understands its role—to provide great golf while allowing the island itself to remain the main attraction.
If this photograph brings back memories of rounds played with salt air on your skin—or sparks a daydream of golf framed by turquoise water and swaying palms—I invite you to explore it in the Golf As Life Signature Collection, where places shaped by light, wind, and understated design continue to tell their stories long after the final putt drops.
