Stonewall Resort

Roanoke, West Virginia

Tucked into the rolling hills of Stonewall Jackson State Park, the Palmer Course at Stonewall Resort is a hidden gem in central West Virginia. Designed by Arnold Palmer, the course embraces the natural contours of the land, offering wide fairways framed by hardwood forests and pristine views of Stonewall Jackson Lake.

The course is both forgiving and strategic, making it enjoyable for golfers of all levels. Holes like the par-3 14th, which plays over water, are memorable not only for the challenge but also for the sheer beauty of the surroundings.

For many, Stonewall is a reminder that great golf doesn’t always require fame — sometimes it’s about a quiet, peaceful round in an extraordinary setting.

Working on projects tied to Arnold Palmer was always special to me. At Stonewall, I felt his design philosophy come alive: fun golf that respects the land and leaves you smiling after the round. My camera loved the way the lake and mountains embraced each hole, and I remember thinking: this is West Virginia at its most beautiful.
