Coeur d’Alene Golf Resort

Coeur d’Alene, Idaho

Coeur d’Alene Golf Club – Idaho’s One-of-a-Kind Resort Experience
Perched on the shores of Lake Coeur d’Alene in northern Idaho, the Coeur d’Alene Resort Golf Club is a stunning par‑71 layout measuring around 6,800 yards from the gold. Designed by Scott Miller, it feels more like a lakeside park than a conventional golf course—featuring lush bentgrass fairways, colorful plantings, and majestic trees framing nearly every hole.
But what truly sets this course apart is its world-famous floating green on the 14th hole—a moveable island green that players reach by a shuttle boat called “The Putter.” Its position can be adjusted daily, making it one of golf’s most playful and unpredictable challenges.
Strategic water features abound: the shoreline shapes the layout, while Fernan Creek weaves through several holes (11–13), and dense juniper bushes line many fairways. Local caddies even offer a free drop if your ball lands in one of the 25,000 junipers—a quirky yet welcome touch

🎥 Behind the Lens: My Takeaway
Grabbing my camera at sunrise along the lakefront was surreal—the mirror-like water reflecting full fairways under a glassy sky. The floating green is a visual treat, especially as the morning mist begins to lift off the lake. There’s a cinematic quality here: golfers cruising out to the green, pin positions shifting subtly with each round. Off the course, the resort vibe is real—the marina, Tubbs Hill trails, and downtown Coeur d’Alene all contribute to a relaxed yet vibrant atmosphere. I loved capturing contrasts: the polished fairways edged by wild juniper and evergreen forests, and tranquil water juxtaposed with the buzz of the “Putter” boat.

Each week, we share a stunning golf image and a heartfelt, hilarious, or inspiring story. While they may not always align, both aim to elevate the game and uplift those who love it. These images aren’t for sale—they’re simply here to be enjoyed, just as the stories are meant to inspire, entertain, and celebrate the spirit of golf.

Morocco Madness

For 11 years only to end right after 9/11, our company managed Tour player and media recruitment for the prestigious King Hassan II Trophy in Morocco. Our first stop, along with a score of Pro-Am participants, was Marrakesh, where we stayed at La Mamounia, one of the most exotic hotels globally. It was a regular getaway for Walter Churchill who wrote prose and political papers on a bench in the expansive, colorful garden that would leave Augusta National’s azaleas jealous.
The imperial city didn’t let us down: miles of souks, hordes of beggars, mounds of connoisseur-grade saffron for sale and shops rife with hand-woven Berber rugs. Yes, Colin Montgomery talked me into paying an unknown amount of Dirham for a snake charmer to wrap a cobra around my neck.
The photo ops continued with a camel ride following a unique meal that was Morocco’s equivalent of a three-star Michelin restaurant experience. The legendary Billy Casper told me a dish was chicken pot pie only to quickly realize at first bite it was pigeon pie that I quickly transferred to my silk napkin. Fool me once and, well, fool me twice. Billy said it’s customary to honor our royal hosts by eating a half dozen of the country’s famous tangerines with every meal. Little did I think it would result in regular restroom visits. Color me young and naïve.
Rabat was a short flight away where the golf tournament was to be played on the marvelous course at the Dar es Salam Golf Club. Nick Price, David Toms, Vijay Singh, Payne Stewart, Craig Stadler, Jim Furyk, Jose Maria Olazabal, Jesper Parnevik and other stars of that era contested for a dagger replete with handpicked jeweled by his majesty King Hassan II himself.
The antics beyond 72 holes of hotly contested tournament golf were beyond reproach. Sam Torrence downed one too many bottles of Guiness and danced on a hotel table while twirling spaghetti. And the King’s Police, our escort for the week, took us to the Ambrosia discothèque where we were informed that any woman within the harems of those dancing could be ours for the evening. Two of my media friends on the trip turned bright red, then wisely turned down the thoughtful offer.
