Hapuna Golf Club

Kohala Coast, Big Island, Hawaii

Hapuna Golf Club, set high above the Kohala Coast on the Big Island of Hawaii, offers a sweeping perspective of both land and sea. Designed by Arnold Palmer and Ed Seay, the course flows across arid slopes, with wide fairways framed by lava rock and grasses that shift color in the Hawaiian light. From this elevated perch, golfers are treated to endless views of the Pacific and the islands beyond.

As a photographer, Hapuna is about openness and scale. The hillside setting allows the land to stretch toward the ocean, creating layers of texture and depth in a single frame. Depending on the time of day, the sky and sea trade roles as the dominant subject — sometimes soft and serene, other times bold and electric. Capturing Hapuna means embracing the expansiveness of Hawaii’s landscape and the way the game of golf feels small against such a backdrop.
