Oak Tree National

Edmond, Oklahoma

One of Pete Dye’s most demanding designs, Oak Tree National has long been recognized as one of Oklahoma’s premier championship venue.

Host of the 1988 PGA Championship and multiple U.S. Amateur events, the course is as tough as they come — narrow fairways, deep bunkers, and Dye’s trademark railroad ties keep even the best players honest.

The course’s character is defined by its wind-swept plains and punishing layout. The par-3 13th hole, with water lurking along the left, is a test of nerve late in the round.

For pros and amateurs alike,

Oak Tree is a proving ground — a course that rewards precision and punishes hesitation.

As an ex-Edmond resident and an Oklahoma State alum, Oak Tree holds a personal place in my story. This was the second golf course I photographed nearly forty-five years ago. It is one of the most memorable golf courses I have ever witnessed. Photographing it has been both a professional challenge and a personal joy. There’s a certain pride in knowing that one of golf’s great championship courses is right here in my own backyard.

Each week, we share a stunning golf image and a heartfelt, hilarious, or inspiring story. While they may not always align, both aim to elevate the game and uplift those who love it. These images aren’t for sale—they’re simply here to be enjoyed, just as the stories are meant to inspire, entertain, and celebrate the spirit of golf.
