El Conquistador Golf Club

Set high on the cliffs of Puerto Rico’s northeast coast, El Conquistador Golf Club delivers a round that feels as dramatic as its setting.

Designed by Arthur Hills, the course plays along ridgelines with panoramic views of both the Atlantic Ocean and the El Yunque Rainforest. Elevation changes are part of the adventure here — tee shots fall away toward the turquoise water, and approach shots test your nerve against the wind coming off the sea.What makes El Conquistador unique is its blend of natural drama and resort charm. Fairways edge toward cliff sides, greens perch on plateaus, and at every turn the ocean reminds you of where you are. It’s the kind of course where even a casual round feels memorable because of the scenery alone.

I can still picture standing behind my camera as the light shifted across the water, casting blues and silvers on the horizon. Photographing El Conquistador was less about chasing perfect golf shots and more about capturing a sense of place — a course that embodies the romance of island golf. This image is far from a traditional golf photograph, but I loved the contrast of the yellow blooms that had fallen from the tree in the foreground and how it contrasted with the green of El Yunque in the background.
