Hacienda Pinilla Golf Club

Hacienda Pinilla Golf Club Tamarindo, Costa Rica

Hacienda Pinilla Golf Club in Tamarindo, Costa Rica, holds a special place in my heart. Since first photographing the property around 2000, I’ve returned more than twenty times, capturing its stunning landscapes, vibrant community, and evolving developments. This image showcases the club’s iconic 15th hole, a breathtaking par three that cascades toward the Pacific. Designed by my friend Mike Young, the course embodies the natural beauty of its surroundings. I’ll always be grateful to Mike for introducing me to both Hacienda Pinilla and Costa Rica—one of my favorite places on earth.

Each week, we share a stunning golf image and a heartfelt, hilarious, or inspiring story. While they may not always align, both aim to elevate the game and uplift those who love it. These images aren’t for sale—they’re simply here to be enjoyed, just as the stories are meant to inspire, entertain, and celebrate the spirit of golf.

Pat Sings About Golf

“At my best I was a 15-handicap. My ambition was always to get down to a solid 10. But being over 80 years old (Boone was born in 1934), I’ve sort of abandoned that ambition.’’

It was Crosby, Boone’s role model as a singer, who in 1957 sponsored his membership into iconic Bel-Air Country Club in Los Angeles.  Boone, in fact, channeled a bit of Eddie Merrins – Bel-Air’s legendary golf professional – into a scene in “The Mulligan,’’ a 2022 movie in which starred as the “Old Pro.’’ In the scene, the Old Pro is teaching a group of young golfers from the Payne Stewart Kids Golf Camp – a real-life organization..

Boone even wore Stewart’s signature “Plus Fours’’ as the Old Pro. He didn’t have to have much wardrobe help in that regard.

“I have about 20 of them because I played in so many tournaments, They were made by Tim Barry – the same man who made Payne’s. He even made me a kilt that I wore one time in a tournament.’’
