Karen Country Club

Nairobi, Kenya

Set just outside Nairobi, Karen Country Club is one of Kenya’s most historic and picturesque courses.

Established in the 1930s, it was built on the former coffee estate of Karen Blixen, the Danish author made famous by Out of Africa.

The course is known for its towering trees, flowering gardens, and wildlife that occasionally makes appearances near the fairways. Karen has hosted numerous Kenya Opens, becoming a fixture on the international golf scene.

It’s a course where history, culture, and nature come together in unforgettable fashion.

My trip to Karen Country Club remains one of the most memorable of my career. Working for the Kenya Tourist Board and photographing golf against the backdrop of African skies, with the sounds of Nairobi not far away, was unlike anything else. It was a reminder that golf isn’t just about place — it’s about the stories each location carries with it.
