Kawana Resort

Known as the “Pebble Beach of Japan,” Kawana Resort is perched along the rugged coastline of the Izu Peninsula.

Its Fuji Course, designed by C.H. Alison in 1936, is widely considered one of the most scenic in Asia.

Holes play along seaside cliffs with Mt. Fuji looming in the distance, creating a setting that feels both dramatic and serene. The par-5 15th, running parallel to the Pacific, is especially breathtaking.

For decades, Kawana has been a destination for both Japanese and international golfers, blending classic design with iconic scenery.



Photographing Kawana was a dream fulfilled. Standing on a cliffside fairway with the Pacific waves crashing below and Mt. Fuji on the horizon, I felt the weight of how special this place is. Few courses capture the poetry of golf quite like Kawana — a course that feels like it was painted into the landscape. I recall a very lovely dinner at the resort with all the senior staff and the beautiful presentation of a huge abalone steak. They all clapped when I cut into it and took my first bite. One of the highlights of all my travels was the way I was treated when in Japan. I have huge feelings for all my friends and hosts there.THANK YOU!
