The Blue Monster

The Ninth at Doral: A Blue Monster Awakens

Few courses in the world carry the weight of history and challenge quite like the Blue Monster at Trump National Doral Miami. Since its debut in 1962, this iconic course has tested the mettle of golf’s greatest champions—from Jack Nicklaus and Greg Norman to Tiger Woods—earning its place as one of the most formidable layouts in the game .

This image captures the ninth hole, a 216-yard par 3 that epitomizes the course’s risk-reward philosophy. With water running the entire length of the right side and a steep ledge that punishes any shot drifting off-line, precision is paramount. The wind, often swirling and unpredictable, adds another layer of complexity, making club selection a critical decision .

Originally designed by Dick Wilson, the Blue Monster underwent a significant renovation in 2014 under the guidance of Gil Hanse, restoring its bite and reaffirming its status as a premier championship venue .

From the Photographer:

“Standing behind the ninth tee, the expanse of water and the distant green framed by the resort’s architecture create a scene that’s both intimidating and beautiful. It’s a hole that demands respect and offers no forgiveness—a true testament to the course’s moniker.”

Each week, we share a stunning golf image and a heartfelt, hilarious, or inspiring story. While they may not always align, both aim to elevate the game and uplift those who love it. These images aren’t for sale—they’re simply here to be enjoyed, just as the stories are meant to inspire, entertain, and celebrate the spirit of golf.

Practice Vs. Play

A lot of golfers prefer to practice more than play. We know they’re not going to spend eight hours out there, but they will spend a couple of hours chipping, pitching and putting. A few years ago, a practice range was just an add-on, now practice areas are big drawing cards.
