The Pulpit Club – Hole #1, Caledon, Ontario
Designed by the acclaimed duo Dr. Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry, Hole #1 at The Pulpit Club stands as one of Canada’s most formidable opening holes. This 478-yard par-4 challenges golfers with its expansive double fairway and strategic bunkering, demanding precision and confidence right from the first tee.
From the Photographer’s Lens
Captured from an elevated vantage point, the photograph showcases the vastness of the double fairway, framed by the rolling Caledon Hills. The early morning light casts long shadows, accentuating the contours of the fairway and the strategic placement of bunkers. The distant silhouette of Toronto’s skyline serves as a subtle reminder of the course’s proximity to urban life, yet its serene setting feels worlds apart.
A Subtle Nod to Trivial Pursuit
Interestingly, The Pulpit Club’s transformation and rebranding were overseen by Longridge Partners, a firm led by individuals with a passion for both golf and innovation. This spirit of creativity echoes the ingenuity of Canadians Chris Haney and Scott Abbott, who famously developed the board game Trivial Pursuit in 1979.

Each week, we share a stunning golf image and a heartfelt, hilarious, or inspiring story. While they may not always align, both aim to elevate the game and uplift those who love it. These images aren’t for sale—they’re simply here to be enjoyed, just as the stories are meant to inspire, entertain, and celebrate the spirit of golf.
Golf is a crazy and unpredictable game. Anyone who has been infected by it, understands that. How you get seduced and why you fall and more importantly stay, in love is open for a spirited conversation. Love of competition, comradely, the outdoors, some even are obsessed with being challenged by it are just a few ways to explain the love/hate relationship we all have with the game.
Golf also represents hope, which is an important aspect to life. Hope that one day something clicks and we become better, make a birdie, eagle or even a hole-in-one. Maybe today we break 80 or shoot our age? It also offers a few surprises along the way.
Golf attracts people from all walks of life and a game everyone can play for all of their lives. I never thought I would get the chance to tee it up with a former four-time heavyweight champion of the world! Thanks to golf, I did.
I was unexpectedly paired in a charity event, some years ago, with Evander Holyfield. He was recently retired and was looking to use golf as a way to develop future business relationships. He wasn’t much of a golfer, but he understood the power and attraction the game offered to others. During our round together, he was open to discuss almost anything, including how Mike Tyson bit off part of his ear during a fight. Holyfield seemed to understand the young Tyson and didn’t hold against him some missing cartilage from his ear. He spoke of his amateur career, including his bronze medal at the 1984 Summer Olympics. He talked about his success and the burden it represented for his children to be compared to it.
At the end of our round I offered him a ride back to his hotel. He accepted and for 45 minutes it was just him and me and no other outside noise. He shared a story how someone attempted to take advantage of him financially through his fame and by simply being seen with him. The Champ was and remains a champ with me. And to my surprise golf was the pathway for our brief connection.
